Cue the romantic music
“I cannot fix on the hour, or the spot, or the look or the words, which laid the foundation. It is too long ago. I was in the middle before I knew that I had begun.”
It's a funny thing to not know when you're meeting someone that will change your life forever. You can reflect on all the little moments that built up to knowing you're in love but to pinpoint the exact moment would be difficult.
Our first little moment would be when we first decided to work at the same place. Even though we didn't speak, apart from that one time someone tried to talk to the other one or when we ran into each other but someone wasn't exactly "nice". If you know us, you know who the somebodies are. At work we both separately met our eventual matchmaker.
On March 5, 2015, a snow storm decided to swoop into Maryland and our matchmaker offered me shelter to wait out the storm. She convinced me to walk to a local bar with her to kill some time. We had the typical vent about life talk and eventually she asked me if I wanted to meet her friend Adam. I repetitively said no but she decided to invite him anyways.
Adam eventually showed up in his soccer shirt and beanie. Immediately, he asked me questions. I don't typically enjoy small talk. If you've met me, it takes me a few conversations for me to warm up to you. With Adam, I felt comfortable. He led the conversation and I just remember thinking that he doesn't make me feel like I need to put up a front or be anyone else but myself.
We spent the night dancing, singing, laughing and then parted ways. The next few weeks were pretty much us getting to know each other. We were inseparable.
Months turned into years and our friendship turned into love. Over those years, I feel as though our love grew as we went through the moments that made us what we are today. The struggles of learning each others flaws, Adam meeting my daughters, commitment to being a team, buying a home together and being the person that the other one can turn to.
When I do look back on how we met, it feels like the universe pulled us together that when put into writing it seem like a story. As if God, fate or whatever you choose to believe steered us both on a path to meeting.
I can't wait to add our wedding and marriage to the long list of moments that have shaped our lives. Here's to being best friends forever and each other's player 2 always.
